FairPlay DRM support for protected playback on Apple devices

FastPix’s DRM stack now supports Apple FairPlay Streaming in addition to Google Widevine. With both DRM systems live, you can protect a single VOD asset for playback across Safari on macOS, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Android (via Widevine), and Chromium-based desktop browsers, using a single create-playback request.

When you create a DRM-protected playback ID, FastPix now provisions both Widevine and FairPlay license endpoints and exposes the appropriate license-acquisition URLs in the playback manifest.

What’s included:

  • FairPlay license endpoints — issued automatically for any playback ID created with accessPolicy: drm.

  • MP4 download restriction — when a playback ID is drm, the mp4Support capability is automatically disallowed to prevent unprotected downloads of premium content.
