# Add tracks to a video from the dashboard

You can add audio and subtitle tracks to an existing media directly from the FastPix dashboard, without calling the API. Use it to add a dubbed audio track or a caption file to a video you've already uploaded. Unlike the API, which fetches a track from a public URL, the dashboard also lets you upload a file directly from your computer.

## Before you begin

* A FastPix account with an active workspace ([Activate your account](/getting-started/activate-your-account)).
* An existing media in your dashboard.
* An audio or subtitle file on your computer, or a public URL to an audio file.

## Supported formats

* **Audio**: `.mp3`, `.m4a`, `.wav`, `.aac`, `.ogg`
* **Subtitles**: `.srt`, `.vtt`

## Add an audio or subtitle track

1. In the dashboard, open the media and, under **Manage Media** in the left navigation, select **Audio & Subtitles**. Then open the **Upload audio & subtitles** sub-tab.
2. Add the track in one of the following ways:
   * **Upload a file**: drag and drop an audio or subtitle file into the upload area, or click **Browse** to select it.
   * **Add audio from a URL**: paste an audio file URL into **Upload using audio URL**, and then click **Upload**. This option is for audio tracks only.
3. In the dialog, set the following details, and then click **Start upload media**:
   * **Media Title**: a label for the track.
   * **Type**: set automatically based on the file, either **Audio** or **Subtitle**.
   * **Language Name**: the label shown in the player's audio or subtitle menu, such as English. Don't include spaces, and give each track a unique language name. For example, after you add a track named English, you can't reuse English for another track.
   * **Language Code**: a BCP 47 language tag, such as `en`, `es`, or `fr`.
4. The track appears in the **Uploaded audio and subtitles** list with the status **Preparing**. When it changes to **Ready**, the track is available in the player: audio tracks appear in the audio menu, and subtitle tracks appear in the CC menu.

## Manage uploaded tracks

Use the **Action** column in the **Uploaded audio and subtitles** list to edit a track's title, language name, or language code, or to delete it. To review the tracks already attached to the media, open the **Tracks** sub-tab in the **Audio & Subtitles** tab.

> **NOTE:**
>
> * Don't leave or refresh the tab while a file is still uploading, because that cancels the upload.
> * Adding a track only processes the new track you're adding. Your existing tracks stay **Ready**, and the media itself isn't re-processed.
> * For an audio-only media, the original audio track can't be deleted.
> * If you also use the API, a finished track reports its status as `available`, which the dashboard shows as a green **Ready** badge.
