You upload video to FastPix, and Moodle treats it like any other course content, with adaptive playback, optional DRM, captions, watch tracking, and completion-based grading. \ ## What is Moodle Moodle is a widely used open-source learning management system (LMS). Institutions and companies use it to host courses, deliver content, run activities, and track learner progress. Moodle can store and play video files on its own, but it isn't built to encode, stream adaptively, secure, or measure engagement with video at scale. \ ## Why integrate FastPix with Moodle FastPix handles the video so Moodle doesn't have to. When you connect FastPix to Moodle, you get: * **Adaptive streaming:** videos play smoothly across devices and connection speeds instead of serving one large file. * **Reliable uploads:** large recordings upload with resumable transfer, or you pull a video from a URL. * **Secure playback:** optional DRM and signed playback tokens protect course content. * **Engagement data:** track how much of each video a student watches, and let Moodle grade the activity automatically when they reach a completion threshold. * **Familiar workflows:** teachers and authors add video from the places they already work, including course activities, the rich-text editor, and forum posts. \ ## The FastPix plugins for Moodle The integration is made up of four plugins. Install `local_fastpix` first, because the other three depend on it. | Plugin | What it does | Setup guide | | ---------------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------- | | `local_fastpix` (foundation) | Connects Moodle to FastPix. Owns your API credentials, the HTTP gateway, the asset cache, webhook ingestion, and playback-token signing. Every other plugin talks to FastPix through it. | [Set up the local plugin](/moodle/local-plugin) | | `mod_fastpix` (activity) | Adds a FastPix Video activity to courses. Teachers upload or pull a video, set a completion threshold based on watch percentage, and let Moodle write the grade automatically. | [Set up the activity plugin](/moodle/mod-plugin) | | `filter_fastpix` (embed) | Turns a short code into a working player in any rich-text field, including forum posts, Pages, Book chapters, course summaries, and quiz feedback. Display only, with no tracking or grading. | [Set up the filter plugin](/moodle/filter-plugin) | | `tiny_fastpix` (authoring) | Adds an Insert FastPix Video button to the TinyMCE editor. Authors pick a video from a searchable list, and the plugin inserts the short code that `filter_fastpix` renders. | [Set up the tiny plugin](/moodle/tiny-plugin) | `filter_fastpix` and `tiny_fastpix` work together as the embed system: `tiny_fastpix` inserts videos, and `filter_fastpix` renders them. \ ## Get started To set up the integration: 1. Confirm you have a FastPix account and a Moodle site where you have administrator access. 2. Install and connect `local_fastpix`. This is the foundation plugin, and the other three won't work without it. 3. Install the plugins you need: * For graded, trackable course videos, add `mod_fastpix`. * To embed videos in rich text, add `filter_fastpix` (rendering) and `tiny_fastpix` (authoring). Start with [Set up the local plugin](/moodle/local-plugin). > The single API stack for video: upload, encode, stream, secure, and analyze video at any scale. Authors pick a video from a searchable list and the plugin inserts a short code that renders as a player.
