# Install FastPix Android player

Learn how to add the FastPix Android Player SDK to your Android project.

The FastPix Android Player SDK is a Media3-based playback library built on ExoPlayer. It supports live and on-demand video streaming, playback security, analytics, track switching, and resolution control. You can find the source code in the [FastPix Android Player GitHub repository](https://github.com/FastPix/fastpix-android-player).

## Prerequisites

### Android environment

* Android Studio: Arctic Fox or later
* Android SDK: Version 24 (Android 7.0) or higher
* Kotlin: 1.8 or higher
* AndroidX Media3: 1.9.0
* GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) for private Maven access

### FastPix setup

Complete these steps in the FastPix Dashboard before integrating the SDK:

1. Sign in to [dashboard.fastpix.com](https://dashboard.fastpix.com).
2. Create a media asset (through the UI or API, using push or pull URL).
3. Go to **View Media**, select your uploaded file, and copy the `playbackId`.
4. Use this playback ID in your app to generate the playback URL.

## Add the SDK dependency

Open your app-level `build.gradle` file (or `build.gradle.kts` for Kotlin DSL) and add the following under `dependencies`:

```kotlin
dependencies {
    implementation("io.fastpix.player:android:2.2.2")
}
```

If you use version catalogs, add it to `libs.versions.toml` instead:

```toml
[versions]
fastpix-player = "2.2.2"
[libraries]
fastpix-player = { module = "io.fastpix.player:android", version.ref = "fastpix-player" }
```

## Add the GitHub Maven repository

Open your `settings.gradle` (or `settings.gradle.kts`) file. You need a GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) to access the private Maven package.

> **Recommended:** Load credentials from `local.properties` so you don't hardcode secrets.

Add the following inside the `repositories` section:

```kotlin
repositories {
    maven {
        url = uri("https://maven.pkg.github.com/FastPix/fastpix-android-player")
        credentials {
            username = "<your-github-username>"
            password = "<your-personal-access-token>"
        }
    }
}
```

## Sync your project

Click **Sync Now** in the notification bar to download and integrate the SDK. Once synced, you can use the FastPix Player SDK in any part of your Android project.

#### Frequently asked questions

Add the GitHub Maven repository to `settings.gradle` with your credentials, then add `implementation("io.fastpix.player:android:2.2.2")` under `dependencies` in your app-level `build.gradle` (or `build.gradle.kts`) and sync the project.

The SDK requires Android SDK version 24 (Android 7.0) or higher. You also need Kotlin 1.8 or higher, AndroidX Media3 1.9.0, and Android Studio Arctic Fox or later.

Yes. The SDK is published to a private GitHub Maven package, so you need a GitHub Personal Access Token (PAT) as the password in the repository credentials. Load it from `local.properties` rather than hardcoding it.

Use `io.fastpix.player:android:2.2.2`, the current release. It adds playlists, preloading, disk caching, pre-rendering, and pre-caching, with IDE quick-fixes for the deprecated 2.1.0 APIs.
